STOCK DISCUSSION AND ETF DISCUSSION GROUPS

AND THE PLAN FOR BUILDING THE 2024 “SHOPPING LISTS”

The next Stock discussion group will meet on Friday April 18, @ 2:00pm at Liberty Center.

The next ETF group meets the Friday, April 26, 2:00pm at Liberty Center.

Last year in April, the stock discussion group created a “shopping List” of stocks we were interested in.

We created a list of growth stocks and another of dividend and growth stocks.

This year we will be building our “shopping list” at the January and February discussion meetings. All members of the SCA Financial club are invited to participate.

We created our lists on April 21 2023.  (list with results are at the end of this email).  Our portfolio returned 22.19% from that date. This beat both the Russell 1000, which returned 13.15% and the SP 500 which returned 15.31% (from April 21st) but did not beat the QQQ index which returned 29.35%

Our best performing stock was SMCI up 164.87% followed by PLTR up 110.67% and CRWD up 97.92%. worst was DGII down 20.02%

Of the 28 stocks on the list 20 finished in the black and 8 lost money

Our dividend oriented portfolio retuned 8.53% while the SCHD (Schwab div/income ETF) returned 4.06%; but the VIG (Van Guard div./income ETF) returned 8.78%. Our dividend yield was higher than both.

Of the 17 stocks on the list 12 finished in the black and 5 lost money

****returns are only price appreciation and do not include dividends*****

The plan for 2024:

In the coming months we will create a new list for 2024. You are all welcome to join us. These are discussion groups and the more voices and opinions the better the conversation, and better the resulting portfolios.

We will start in January by:

  1. reviewing the 2023 list and deciding what we wish to keep and what we wish to remove from the list.
  2. Deciding on what market sectors, industries we want to invest in for 2024
  3. Deciding on which stocks in those sectors we are interested in,
  4.  or if we want to invest in the sector through ETFs. And track through the ETF group.
  5. Finally deciding on whether we want to buy immediately, or if our stocks/ETFs have a buy trigger, and what we think that is.

Current discussion groups members and new discussion group members,  if you are coming to the January discussion meetings please be prepared to discuss which stocks we wish to remove and subsequently which sectors/industries we wish to explore investing into.
